The Formula 4 season reached its third event at the Dubai Autodrome. Pepe Martí had a new opportunity to show his rhythm and improve his progression in a championship in which he is progressing steadily. The Catalan met his objective and achieved good results in what has been his best weekend in single-seaters to date.
As usual, the round started with qualifying sessions, carried out on Friday. In them, Martí managed to take fifth place on the grid for Races 1 and 3; and a great third place for Race 2.
As the first race started, Martí came out with a new podium as his main objective. The Spanish rider fought hard during the first part of the competition, after consolidating himself in fourth position, where he stayed until the last lap. At the end of the race and after one last chaotic turn, Martí saw the checkered flag in sixth position.
The remaining three races took place on Saturday. In the second, Martí made an impressive start, which allowed him to put himself first. The safety car left towards the middle of the race when Martí was in second position. In the restart he had a duel with the leader of the championship, in which positions were exchanged several times and he showed his ability to attack rivals and defend the position. On one of those occasions, Martí took second place and took advantage of the fight behind him to open a gap and secure that second position. Thus, he achieved the second podium of the season and his best single-seater result.
In Race 3, in the first laps, he was involved in a duel with another driver who slowed him down. When he was able to consolidate himself in fifth place, he went for the leaders, with whom he was cutting distances until he reached them. In the final laps he was fighting for third position with two other drivers, but the race ended before he had a chance to try to overtake, making him fifth less than a second behind third place.
The last race of the weekend was harder. Martí started fourth and moments after the start he became fifth. Again, a rival slowed him down and made him lose the options to fight in the lead. At the end of the race, Martí was involved in a duel in which he was at a disadvantage due to the condition of his tires. Finally he took eighth position.
Martí, however, has completed a positive weekend, scoring points in all races and achieving a new podium. His pace has been among the best on the grid and his progression is evident.
"It has been a very difficult weekend emotionally, with the loss of Adrián Campos on Thursday. I send all my support and my condolences to the Campos Team and Adrián's family", Martí recalled the director of Campos Racing, the team with which he will compete in the Spanish F4, after his passing.
"On the competitive side, I am quite happy with how the weekend went, we managed to find the way to improve and keep moving forward with our progression. I am happy with the weekend, so we will try to take that to Abu Dhabi", were the words of Martí after the end of the round.
Martí continues to gain experience in the car and will seek to improve what he has achieved in the next round of the F4 UAE, which will be held next week at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
