Pepe Martí will take the leap into Formula 3 with the Campos Racing team.
The Spanish driver and the Valencian team extend their relationship after a successful first season in Spanish F4.
“Taking the step up to Formula 3 with the same team will help me continue improving as a driver a lot. I was blown away by the power of the car during the test in Valencia and I am really looking forward to getting back in it. I am very grateful for this opportunity and I will give everything I can.”
Pepe Martí will compete in the 2022 FIA Formula 3 season driving one of the Campos Racing team's FIA 2019 single-seaters. The young talent becomes the first driver confirmed by the Alzira team, in a season that will officially start on 19-20th March in Bahrain, together with Formula 1.
Martí will take a step forward in his racing career after a successful single-seater debut last year in the Spanish Formula 4. The promising young 16-year-old was a star performer with the same team and concluded the season with many achievements: he won two races and reached a total of seven podiums in his first year in the category, to finish third in the drivers standing with a total of 196 points.
These results gave him the opportunity to do his first collective test with an F3 single-seater last November at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia. The Spaniard was the youngest driver of the 36 participants and achieved very competitive and promising times. In FIA F3 he will also be the youngest driver, although he assures that it will not be a disadvantage for him.
“The first time I got into the F3, I was shocked by the power they have. I thought: 'This is seriously fast'. It was incredible and I cannot wait to get back in the car. I have been training to the limit physically as well as with the simulator, to face this challenge with the best possible preparation”, says Martí.
“Taking the step up to Formula 3 with the same team will help me to continue improving as a driver. I am very grateful for this opportunity and I will give my all. After my first single-seater season with Campos, I had no doubt that I wanted to continue working with them. The values and philosophy that we have upheld have helped me to grow as a driver and as a person. I am really looking forward to facing this new challenge and give it everything in 2022”, the driver expressed.
This year, Pepe Martí will be obliged to change his number and will compete with the number 22 on his car, as he already wore in the Valencia tests. However, he will continue to wear the 23 on his suit, since it was and continues to be his way of honoring the person who gave him his first chance in the world of single-seaters, Adrián Campos (father), founder of Campos Racing who participated in F1 in the late 1980s.
“At Campos Racing we have always opted for a structure with which to offer the opportunity to evolve and grow together. Our philosophy is to accompany the driver in their karting stage and their journey with single-seaters until they reach the gates of F1. Last season we decided to be present in the Spanish F4, with the hope and motivation of reinforcing that idea. Pepe Martí is the spearhead of this project and we believe that he is one of the greatest talents that has passed through the team throughout our history. We are extremely proud that he wants to continue this alliance and continue working with us, taking this great step forward in his sports career together”, Adrián Campos jr assured.
Competing with Campos Racing is a sign of continuity of a joint project that excites both parties. In addition, previous drivers that have progressed through the team include Fernando Alonso, Antonio García, Marc Gené, Álex Palou, Sergio Pérez or Lucas di Grassi.
Pepe Martí, who is in Dubai, will face the second round of the Asian Regional Formula next weekend.
