Pepe Martí, Asian Regional Formula 2022 Runner-up and Rookie Champion

The 16-year-old driver already won the title of best rookie last week in Dubai and, this weekend, he took the silver medal in his debut year in the competition.

The driver overcame a weekend of adversity to gain learning and experience in different situations.

On Friday in free practice he experienced some engine problems, which his team, Pinnacle Motorsport, was able to solve by working against the clock.

On Saturday in QP1 he took sixth place for the first race, and in QP2, he was fifth fastest for the third race grid.

In the first race of the weekend, the young driver stalled his engine at the start and was relegated to 28th position. With his good pace and a great show of talent, he passed up to 16 drivers after several laps, moving up to twelfth, with the intention of reaching tenth place for the reverse grid pole position in the second race. However, when he got close to the top 10, he had no time left to catch it and crossed the finish line in 12th place.

In the second race, he started from the same position and, after another great comeback, he crossed the chequered flag in fourth place.

Finally, in the last race held this Sunday, from sixth position, he managed to overtake the championship winner who was just in front of him, but a touch between the two caused him to suffer problems with the steering of his car during the whole race. With determination and head, he was able to finish the race in sixth place, scoring more points and concluding the weekend with the runner-up position, which he had already achieved on Saturday.

"In the second race I made a good start, but after stalling I didn't want to risk too much. In the first lap, I overtook two drivers and after two safety cars and a good restart, I was able to move up to fifth position. After that, I was able to overtake my teammate, as I had more pace and he didn't put up any resistance. I crossed the finish line in fourth. In the third race of the weekend it was a pity to have problems with the steering and to have made a small mistake, because we could have overtaken the riders in front, as we had the pace to do so initially. But that's racing," said the youngster.

"I am very happy to be runner-up in the FRAC 2022. It's clear that when we came here we didn't know what level we were going to be at, although I had confidence in myself. We came with the goal of being in the top 10 and we leave with five podiums and the runner-up spot. The result exceeds my expectations but I must also say that after finishing second overall and seeing the pace we had, I would have liked to have won a race. However, we have shown that we are consistent and that we can be at the front and that is very important".
